Ventoy v1.0.98: A New Milestone in Bootable USB Drive Creation
Ventoy, the open-source tool that has revolutionized the creation of bootable USB drives, has released its latest version, Ventoy v1.0.98. This tool, known for its ability to boot directly from ISO/WIM/IMG/VHD(x)/EFI files without extraction, continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the realm of bootable USB drives.
Key Features
Ventoy’s features are what set it apart in the market. It is 100% open source and incredibly simple to use. The speed of the tool is only limited by the speed of copying the ISO file. It supports both Legacy and UEFI in the same way, including UEFI Secure Boot (since 1.0.07+).
The tool also supports persistence (since 1.0.11+), MBR and GPT partition styles (1.0.15+), and booting from WIM and IMG files (Legacy + UEFI) (1.0.12+ and 1.0.19+ respectively). Other features include auto installation (1.0.09+), file injection (1.0.16+), and support for ISO files larger than 4GB.
Ventoy offers a native boot menu style for Legacy & UEFI and supports most types of OS (Windows/WinPE/Linux/Unix/Vmware/Xen…), with over 550+ ISO files tested. It’s not just about booting but also about the complete installation process. ISO files can be listed in List mode/TreeView mode, and Linux vDisk boot is supported (vdi/vhd/raw).
The tool introduces the concept of “Ventoy Compatible”, has a Plugin Framework, supports Menu Alias/Menu Style/Customized Menu, and offers USB drive write-protected support. The normal use of the USB drive is unaffected, and data is nondestructive during version upgrades. There’s no need to update Ventoy when a new distro is released.
